2020 Thorntown Festival Cancelled

From a Facebook posting on the Festival Of the Turning Leaves page on 8-27-20:

The Festival Committee and Knights of Pythias want to share that we have met and unfortunately voted to cancel this year’s Festival.

We hate that this is happening, and we worked on a safety plan and modifying the Festival, but it wasn’t enough.

We were super excited about our theme, “All of Our Heroes” chosen for our Grand Marshal, Normand Marchand, who is with our Thorntown American Legion Post #218 and was chosen out of 250 Veterans for the “Shining a Light” award 2019. He was honored in November, and we wanted to do the same!

It was also perfect for this crazy year because there are so many heroes out there! We won’t try to name all the occupations (so many!!!) that have gone above and beyond, and we wanted to say a very big THANK YOU!

We appreciate all those that have pitched in to help others and keep things going.

Of course, we were excited about our entertainment and weekend fun! Hoping to re-book for next year now!

We have been trying to contact all the behind the scene volunteers, event helpers/workers to let you know--our apologies for posting info before speaking with you! A few big shout-outs: to the Parade Committee and our Judges (30 years - Jones Family! Thank You!), Corn Hole Committee, Stage Set-up and Take-down, Utility Department, Info Booth, Restroom Detail, Trash pick-up, Booth Space, Car Show, Raising and Lowering of the Flag Ceremonies, Sound and Stage, 5K/10K and all our Safety/ Emergency Personnel! It takes so many to make the Festival happen each year. We will miss working with you this year, but look forward to 2021.

We want to thank our past sponsors for continued support. Especially those that have checked in to make a donation this year! You are great, and we will for sure be contacting you next year and going for bigger and better!

We are getting close to the 50th Festival - 2023!!

Please visit our Festival Facebook page and share your favorite Festival event, band or memory.

There will be a couple annual things still happening Festival weekend: the Lions Club will still be cooking chickens and the Park Board will still be hosting movie at the Park. Hoping to have annual blood drive. So details to follow as we get them!

Thank you!!

Angie Moody, Pat McPeak, Amy Beesley, Mary Kubley, Lindsey Musgrave and Cari Ann Clanton
